this is rather disturbing
Jan. 3rd, 2012 01:16 pmHas not just the fear of, but the entire concept of eating disorders been wiped out of the public consciousness due to the OogaBoogaObesityPanic?
This BBC article talking about Lord Byron and his obsessive attempts to remain thin, as well as the subsequent acts of famous people, never once deviates from describing these actions as "diets". It helpfully describes how you can live off eating nothing but vinegar-soaked potatoes and mentions the frequent use of emetics and laxatives to "purge" with.
It does mention that his "dieting" left Byron "in poor health", but then goes on to suggest that this sort of behavior is only to be expected among the famous who are constantly in the public eye. Never does it mention anyone dying of it, or breathe words like anorexia or bulimia, and alongside the article are BBC links where you can find out more about losing weight.
